ORCA-FILMS: diciembre 2011

Enjoy it! My last film about the ape inside us was presented in the Mipcom of Cannes this year. Perhaps will be a particular vision of the Crisis of values in this world. But I think this kind of vision it's good for us, to know ourselves, to feel our genetic family in the interior of our hearts.
This is the first film of a trilogy.

RODAJE en EL PARDO (Madrid)

Junto al mítico muro de piedra de El Pardo, un espacio natural "secreto" de Patrimonio Nacional que fué una leyenda para los estudiantes de zoología de mi generación, que nos colábamos allí para observar a los animales y tratando de burlar a los guardas que lo protegen celosamente por ser terreno de Alta Seguridad. En la serie Osos y Madroños quisimos reproducir una secuencia dramatizada en la que los guardas sorprendían a unos estudiantes y los echaban del recinto. Poco sospechaban los improvisados actores que casi todos los miembros del equipo nos habíamos colado exactamente igual decenas de veces. En la imagen un momento del rodaje con los guardas a caballo, Juan Antonio Rodríguez Llano, Ramón Campoamor, Eduardo Lamana y el cámara Nelo Alonso.

DOUGLAS W. SMITH

Este biólogo del Yellowstone National Park en USA, es el responsable de la reintroducción de lobos que se llevóa a cabo en Montana y Wyoming en 1995 a partir de ejemplares provenientes de Canadá. Estuvimos rodando con él para la película documental EL ESPÍRITU DE TOTONKA y conseguimos gracias a su ayuda las primeras imágenes de la ya famosa manada de Druid Peak en plena naturaleza. Rodamos también bisontes, uapitíes, coyotes, águilas calvas, castores y casi toda la fauna de este el primer parque nacional que se declaró en el planeta.

HORTA, Isla de FAIAL

Aquí, en esta isla del archipiélago de las Azores, el gran fotógrafo de naturaleza Juan Hidalgo y yo tomamos unas cervezas en el mítico Bar de Peter, cuyo nombre real es Café Sport. Es, sin duda uno de los bares más legendarios del mundo, porque aquí recalaron desde hace mas de cien años los barcos que cruzaban el atlántico. Era un punto obligado de abastecimiento, el último bastión de tierra antes del gran salto hasta el continente americano. Los balleneros solían entregarle al abuelo de Peter, cuyo hijo regenta hoy el local, enormes dientes de cachalote tallados a cambio de cerveza, ron y algo de comida. Como recuerdo aún continúan dejando los viejos marineros una bandera colgada en la pared del bar. El ambiente no puede ser más literario, parece que el capitán Ahab va a entrar de un momento a otro por la puerta. Desde Faial embarcamos en varias ocasiones junto a la también fotógrafa Candy Lopesino en busca de los enigmáticos cachalotes.

ESPERANDO A LAS BALLENAS FRANCAS EN PUNTA DUNGENESS

Con el cetólogo José Zamorano Abramson desde el punto de observación en el que esperamos a las ballenas francas y a las orcas en junio de 2008 durante varios días sin éxito. Es el invierno austral, y este lugar es intensamente inquietante. Desde este mismo promontorio los hombres de Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa en 1583 esperaron durante dos años a que volviera el barco de su infortunado capitán para ayudarles. Todos aquellos españoles heróicos murieron de hambre y frío tras dos años terribles. Cuando el pirata inglés Cavendish se acercó a esta parte del Estrecho de Magallanes tres años más tarde, solo encontró a uno (Tomé Hernández) de las 3.000 personas que partieron de España. La Ciudad del Rey Don Felipe y la Ciudad de Nombre de Jesús fundadas por los españoles están en algún lugar ahí abajo.

RODAJE PELIGROSO

Muy a menudo esta profesión es paradójica. Mucha gente nos pregunta acerca de los supuestos peligros de leones, orcas o elefantes, animales, como casi todos, completamente predecibles e inofensivos cuando se les conoce. Pero este simple enjambre de abejas es capaz de causar la muerte en un instante a varias personas. En el mundo mueren muchísimas más personas por picaduras de abejas que por ataques de tiburones u otras supuestas fieras. En el caso de la foto, reconozco que me causó cierto placer sentir como caminaban por mis brazos sin que una sola de ellas me picara: estaban tranquilas.
